TITLE: Human Resources Consultant, The Hanover Insurance Group
COMPANY LOCATION: Worcester
RESIDENCE: Somerville
FAVORITE MOVIE: “The American President”
FAVORITE BOOK: This Year: “The Art of Hearing a Heartbeat.” In Life: “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Career highlights: Last fall I had the pleasure of working with a core team of seven to organize Quest for Success. This series of events provided Worcester public school students with helpful information as they started to map out their college application process; while also providing educators and families with resources to assist students.
This project challenged all team members to generate new and exciting ideas about the college application process, push the creative envelope and cultivate new relationships. In the end, we delivered a program that is now a model in the Greater Worcester community. Due to the success of the events, the team has been asked to support and design additional programs for the schools. By participating in this project, I was able to personally help deliver on The Hanover’s commitment to making a true difference in our local community.
Community involvement: As a 2010 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, community involvement has always been very important to me. Staying connected to my college roots, I have served as an alumni interviewer since graduation. While at The Hanover, I have served as a tutor for the Collegiate Success Institute, a program of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium, working with bright and eager students at Claremont Academy. This past fall, I was honored to join the board of directors of the YWCA of Central Massachusetts.
Biggest challenge and success: For a girl that always finagled a way to skip track practice in high school and never running more than five miles, two of my biggest successes to date — and, by far, two of my favorite memories — are completing the Boston Marathon in 2009, when I ran to help raise funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and the Marine Corp Marathon in 2011 to help raise funds for Love Without Boundaries.
Mentors: My childhood piano teacher — for teaching me early on that it was OK to make mistakes. Jen Luisa and Karen Kish from The Hanover — for their honesty, humor and unwavering support. Alex Los, my college mentor — For reminding me that the Marathon Day is the celebration, that is, as long as you didn’t miss a day of training. My family and friends – for showing me the undeniable importance of loving and meaningful relationships. My parents – for everything.
Hidden talents: Riding a bike and taking photos (not at the same time).
